The Publishing Revolution

The publishing industry is archaic and institutionalized; there’s no doubt about that. We have the Big 6 and their even bigger slush piles of unread and unwanted manuscripts. It has been this way for ages. However, although traditional publishers still operate in the same fashion they always have, the industry is being revolutionized. Digital markets such as Amazon allow for authors to easily self-publish their work and social media has created a direct link from authors to audience. Through devices such as Kindles and Nooks, the digital market is bridging the gap between “writer” and “published author.” There is so much potential in this rapidly progressing industry that it’s only a matter of time before that next “big thing” is revealed.

Actually, that next big thing is here.

At Pubslush we saw this rapidly changing industry and the technology emerging from it as an opportunity to bridge the ever-widening gap between self-publishing and traditional publishing, further advancing and redefining the publishing revolution. We’ve utilized emerging technology to create a platform in which we can gauge the market and determine the success of a book pre-publication.  Essentially, we are the platform for aspiring authors who believe they have a great book idea and can garner the support needed for publication.

That next big thing is Pubslush Press. We are the publishing revolution. Want to join?

Spreading the Love of Literacy

I felt very inspired by the Library of Congress and the Ad Council’s newest reading campaign. They stress the importance of reading, particularly to your children. The campaign boasts tag lines such as “Read to a child today and spark a lifetime of ambition.”  and “A New World Awaits. Read.” These sentiments hit close to home because here at Pubslush, this is exactly what we believe in. We believe a simple book can change the life of a child, spark their imagination, and, yes, open up new worlds and possibilities. Even better, literacy can give an impoverished child a chance.

Our goal is to put a heart into publishing. There are so many opportunities for philanthropy in the world of books, yet it seems very few people in the industry are actively pursuing any. So, that is why we have vowed that for every book sold, we will donate a book to a child in need. Only people like you can help us to spread the love of literacy to those who need it most through the Pubslush Cause. Also, help instill the passion and love of reading into the children in your own life and support the Library of Congress and Ad Council’s campaign.

Interview with Keith Ogorek, Author Solutions

PUBSLUSH speaks with Keith Ogorek, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Author Solutions, about the publishing revolution, indie publishing, marketing tips for authors, and the future of publishing.

PS: What role do you play, apart from Author Solutions, in the publishing revolution?

KO: I actually started as a consultant at Author Solutions because I was an author who had used the services of AuthorHouse and the president of the company at the time asked my opinion about their marketing.  So my engagement in the indie publishing revolution began as an author, which I would be even if I didn’t work for the company. That experience though has helped me in my role at ASI because I believe it gives me insight into the challenges, fears and triumphs that come with those brave few who have the tenacity to finish a manuscript and put it out there for people to judge.
